NJ Boating Safety Classes | Captain Jack’s Boating School LLC

Captain Jack's Boating School offers public NJ Boating Safety Certificate classes in Bergen County, Somerset County, Middlesex County, Union County, Monmouth County, Ocean County, Gloucester County, and Atlantic County, New Jersey. We also provide Private NJ Boating Safety classes in all of the counties named above as well as Burlington County, Camden County, Cape May County, Cumberland County, Essex County, Hudson County, Hunterdon County, Mercer County, Morris County, Passaic County, Salem County, Sussex County, and Warren County, New Jersey.

One Day NJ Boating Safety Course: An approved one-day boat safety course must be at least 8 hours in length. It must consist of in-person, formal instruction provided by an approved boating safety instructor, and must culminate with a closed book, in-person, proctored exam. The time required to complete the exam is included within the 8-hour time requirement. No more than one ten- minute non-cumulative break is permitted per hour. Meal breaks, etc. are not included within the 8-hour course.

Two Evening NJ Boating Safety Course: An approved multiple-day boat safety course must consist of at least 6 hours of in-person, formal instruction provided by an approved boating safety instructor. The course must culminate with a closed book, in-person, proctored exam, administered by an approved boating safety instructor. Written homework must be assigned as necessary, so that the total course time (6 or more hours of in-person instruction + test + written homework) equals at least 8 hours. The time required to complete the exam and homework is not counted within the 6 hours of in-person instruction. No more than one ten- minute non-cumulative break is permitted per hour. Meal breaks, etc. are not included within the 6 hours of in-person instruction.

Captain Jack's Boating Safety Course Refund and Cancellation Policy

Boating Safety Course payments are refundable if the student cancels at least 24 hours prior to their scheduled course start date.

Students that contact us to request rescheduling of a Boating Safety Course (at least 24 hours prior to their scheduled course start date) may transfer, one time, to a future scheduled Boating Safety Course at any of our locations. Once a request to transfer to another course starting date has been granted, there is no refund option.

For students that contact us to cancel or reschedule a Boating Safety Course less than 24 hours prior to their scheduled start date, there is no refund option. In this instance, students may request a transfer, one time, to any future scheduled Boating Safety Course at any of our locations as their only remedy.

Any student that fails to show up for their scheduled Boating Safety Course without any notice to us will forfeit any and all payments that they have made.

If for any reason a student is unable to complete a Boating Safety Course that they have already started, the only remedy will be to reschedule to a future course date and location (one time) and retake the entire course.

Should any Boating Safety Course, before or after commencing, need to be shut down for reasons beyond our control, there is no refund option. In this event, we will make every attempt to reschedule the course as soon as possible; however, the only remedies available to students will be to attend the course once it has reopened at the original location or a newly established location, or to reschedule to a future date and location (one time).

Captain Jack's Boating School LLC reserves the right to cancel any Boating Safety Course. Students will be given as much notice as possible. If we do cancel a course, students have the option of transferring to another scheduled Boating Safety Course date (one time) or receiving a full refund. Once a request to transfer to another Boating Safety Course starting date has been granted, there is no refund option.

You must have a New Jersey Boating Safety

Certificate to legally operate a power vessel

(motor boat or Jet Ski/PWC) on New Jersey waters.

Boaters who intend to operate their vessels on

non-tidal/fresh waters may also be required to have

a boating endorsement on their NJ Driver’s

License (commonly referred to as a New Jersey

Boating License). The minimum age

for students is 13 years old
