If your New Jersey Boat Safety Certificate has been lost or damaged, don’t panic! You can get a replacement.
New Jersey state-issued Boat Safety Certificates can be replaced by contacting the New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau. The preferred and most efficient way to communicate with the MSB is by e-mailing your request to njboatcert@gw.njsp.org along with the following information (be sure to provide clearly-legible scanned/photocopied documents or photographs in .jpg, .pdf, or .bmp format):
- Full legal name. In the case of a legal name change you must include your full legal name as it appeared on your original certificate as well as your current legal name with proof of name change (i.e., marriage certificate, divorce decree, or other documentation).
- Date of birth.
- Complete current address. If you have changed residence, you must include your address as it appeared on your original certificate as well as your current address. If you are unsure of the previous address you used, list all previous addresses that it could potentially be.
- Identification with proof of address. Attach a photograph or scanned copy of your New Jersey driver’s license or state-issued ID card. If your address has changed since your boating safety certificate was issued, make sure your driver’s license or ID card shows your current address. If it does not, attach a photograph or scanned copy of a utility bill, bank statement, etc. that shows your name with current address
- Boat Safety Certificate number as it appeared on your original certificate (if known).
- Home phone number with area code; daytime phone number with area code; and an e-mail address.
- An explanation for requesting a replacement Boat Safety Certificate (i.e., lost, stolen, damaged, change of address, or other reason).

Be reminded that certificates issued by other states, the United States Coast Guard, the United States Power Squadron, or any other agency cannot be reissued by the Marine Services Bureau.
